In The Child's Eyes

The fear of darkness,
The still of night,
Heartbreaking sobs echoing, echoing,
Shattering the stillnes, cracking it wide...
When your heart is sad and unbearably alone,
The mind cries your pain and sorrow...

As I look into the eyes of this child
so very wide and innocent..
Expressing it all, the windows to the soul.
I see sadness reflecting back at me.
Seeing things you shouldn't know.

No child alive should go through this pain,
fear, neglect,
But this is how you live...
Shame on us, all of us. watching, waiting.....
Who will reach out to you?

An old face imposed over a youth,
crying, reaching out to me...
Where have you been?
What have you see?
The pain reflecting off of you...
the depths of darkness shrouding you.

My child come to me.
Let me gather you close, hold you,
enfold you, rock you in my arms...
The fear and sadness will leave your face.
Feel your body untensing within my embrace.
Oh my child come to me----
I won't leave you alone!

However briefly, I will do what I can...
To show you another world where
Love and Kindness are not the exception,
Where children can be children without fear.

Because in this world of fear,despair we need
more hearts to reach out there!
Sitting here, complacent, comfortable,
have you ever wondered what they call home?

Children, alone, long into the night....
Shame on all of us for forgetting you...
Watching, waiting,
Who is reaching out to you?

In the still of the night,
when your heart is so lonely.....
And your mind cries out in bleak despair!
My child come to me, let me gather you close,
Hold you in my arms--
I won't leave you alone!
